How to Prevent Burglary

Vacation season is around the corner and most burglaries happen when no one is home, so if you haven't already, it's time to take a few easy steps to make your home less attractive to burglars.  Here are a few simple ideas that will give you peace of mind and allow you to thoroughly enjoy your vacation:

  • Start a neighborhood watch system.  It can be as simple as making sure your immediate neighbors know when your away.  With everyone around knowing your away and keeping an eye on your place will help keeping everyone safe and secure.
  • Invest in a security system.  Prices range from $250 for simple 2-3 camera systems to $1,000+ for 8-10 camera systems.  Anything is better than nothing.
  • Keep quiet on social media.  You don't know who's creeping on Facebook, so don't shout out your ten day cruise next week.
  • Make your house looked lived in.  Have your inside and outside lights on timers, put a hold on mail and have a neighbor park in your driveway occasionally. Also, add motion detection floodlights outside, more light is better.
While there's no sure fire way of preventing burglaries, remaining vigilant and aware, while taking precautionary measures will help.  Whether you decide to invest in a security system, form a neighborhood watch or add motion detection floodlights, whatever you do is better than your current situation.  Stay safe and secure.
