Room with a view!

These incredible photos were taken with a drone in 2014, flying above the trees to get a shot of this amazing house and structure.   This house dates back to the 15th century (1400's) and the particular pillar or column is called the Katshki Pillar.  It is located in Georgia, Asia.  This region of Asia has a lot of structures and houses that are 3,000 - 5,000 years old.  The Katshki Pillar was used by Stylite's, Christians who lived atop pillar's to avoid worldly temptations.  There remains a small church at the base of this pillar, which was built between the 6th and 8th centuries.

If you look really close at these photos, you will see a small ladder on the left side.  For the past 20 years, Maxime, a 59 year old monk has lived here.  He climbs down the 131 foot ladder once or twice a week to pray with others at the church by the base.  Food and supplies are winched up to him by his followers.  In 1993 Maxime decided to become a monk and relocate to the pillar after a brief stint in prison.  He claims " I need the silence, it is up here in the silence that you can feel God's presence".  As a result of Maxime's actions, there is now a religious community at the base of the pillar in the old original church.

Can you imagine how much fun they could have with a drone while living here?  The footage of the neighboring countryside would be incredible.  Additionally, small supplies could be sent via the drone without climbing up and down 131 foot ladder. Well, don't think Maxime will ever get a drone, but, never say never.  Enjoy and record all your adventures!
